Karls launched Scan & Go in its “Erlebnisdorf Rövershagen” near Rostock, Germany, at the beginning of August 2021. Karls is a very special theme park for families. The amusement parks are a mixture of farm stores, show rooms, manufactories, restaurants, and fairgrounds. A variety of products related to strawberries from the company’s own agricultural production are sold.
The company, which is celebrating its 100th birthday this year, has a clear operating philosophy. They want to inspire their guests, with family friendliness, creativity, moments of happiness, but also with authentic experiences in the countryside.

- Web application: customers do not need to download an app. They start their digital shopping journey using their standard browser on their smartphone after scanning a QR code.
- They scan the purchased products with the smartphone and then just pay with the smartphone before leaving the park.
- Youth protection is also guaranteed. Shopping carts with alcoholic items must be approved by employees as part of an age check.
- An exit gate consisting of a terminal and barrier is also put in place. It acts as a checkpoint to verify that visitors have paid. After payment, a QR code appears in the app, which is scanned at the exit and opens the exit gate.
